City of Berkeley
Adeline Specific Plan
Barry was retained by the City of Berkeley to facilitate completion of the Adeline Corridor Specific Plan, a 1.4-mile transit corridor extending from Downtown Berkeley to North Oakland and anchored by the Ashby BART Station. A previous consultant team had completed a background report, preliminary plan concepts, and several workshop summaries. Barry was brought in to audit prior work, synthesize the community input provided to date, and reorient the effort toward objective design standards and anti-displacement strategies.
Working in close collaboration with City staff and Walter Hood (Hood Design), Barry curated a public exhibit at Berkeley’s Ed Roberts Campus branded Reimagine Adeline. The exhibit presented alternative approaches to transportation, land use, and urban design, helping to clarify tradeoffs and build consensus around the corridor’s future. Barry subsequently assisted the City and its new consulting team in drafting the Specific Plan. The Plan is now being implemented, including a proposed 618-unit mixed-income development on the Ashby BART parking lots.
